Music for an imaginary ballet: In the centre of the stage, spotlit by a single bulb, a lone man or woman sits, possibly on a stool, possibly on a chair, perhaps even on a comfy settee. Their eyes are shut and it’s possible they’re not even awake anymore. Their clothes are dusty, especially around the trouser cuffs. For the duration of the music they imagine (or possibly dream) a series of dance steps and movements that are the sort of steps and movements that might signify a long journey made on horseback in a piece of gestural/interprative dance. As the music draws to a close they fall off the chair/stool/settee and, from their new position on the floor, imagine the final movement. Darkness falls. The audience shuffle nervously.
